<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">Introduction: Chronic pain affects approximately 20% of the French population. It leads to significant medical and social consequences, notably by promoting sedentary behavior. Adapted physical activity is recommended in the management of these patients; however, participation rates remain low. In this context, dance appears to be an innovative alternative that may help overcome certain barriers to re-engagement in movement among patients with chronic pain. Objectives: The primary objective was to explore the experiences of patients with chronic pain following participation in a dance-based physical activity program offered within a multidisciplinary primary care center located in a socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhood in Rennes. Methods: A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted between June and December 2024. Data were analyzed using an inductive thematic analysis approach. Results: Group dynamics and a supportive environment played a central role in participant engagement. Dance was experienced as an enjoyable and accessible activity, promoting gradual resumption of movement despite pain. Participants reported psychosocial benefits, including improved well-being and enhanced self-esteem. Some resumed independent physical activity after completing the program. The main barriers identified included fear of pain, coordination difficulties, and concern about others’ judgment. Conclusion: Dance workshops represent a relevant approach to promoting re-engagement in movement among patients with chronic pain in general practice. Although they do not produce sustained pain reduction, they support a process of empowerment and may facilitate the resumption of regular physical activity.</dcterms:abstract>
