Son étiologie est multifactorielle et sa physiopathologie reste énigmatique malgré l’élaboration de nombreuses hypothèses. Il n’existe aucun marqueur biologique spécifique permettant de faire un diagnostic sans équivoque. De plus, les signes divers et variés relevés diffèrent d’une personne à l’autre, rendant son diagnostic d’autant plus difficile. L’unique signe caractéristique rapporté est la dégradation des performances. Actuellement, le meilleur moyen est de coupler un examen clinique avec un ou plusieurs questionnaires psychologiques. L’OTS concerne les sportifs de tous niveaux et la meilleure façon de prévenir un état de surentrainement reste l’optimisation et la planification de la charge d’entraînement. En ce qui concerne le traitement, il repose avant tout sur la mise au repos du sportif, qui est un concept à définir précisément en concertation avec le sportif lui-même et à adapter avec lui en fonction des causes identifiées pouvant être responsables de la pathologie. Overtraining syndrome (OTS) is defined as a persistent decrease in athletic performance despite a decrease in training load for at least two weeks. Its etiology is multifactorial, and it’s pathophysiology remains enigmatic despite the development of numerous hypothesis. There is no specific biological marker to make an unequivocal diagnosis. In addition, the various and varied signs noted differ from one person to another, making its diagnosis all the more difficult. The only typical sign reported is performance degradation. Currently, the best way is to combine a clinical examination with one or more psychological questionnaires. The OTS concerns athletes of all levels and the best way to prevent a state of overtraining remains the optimization and planning of the training load. As far as treatment is concerned, it is based above all on putting the athlete to rest, which is a concept to be precisely defined in consultation with the athlete himself and to be adapted with him according to the identified causes that may be responsible for the pathology.
