<string language="fre">Cappricioso, or a New ‘Grammar in Motion’ in Music and Ballet / Nathalie Vincent-Arnaud, in colloque international organisé, sous la responsabilité scientifique de Muriel Adrien, Melissa Percival et Axel Hémery, par l’Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès et l’Université d’Exeter. Toulouse, Musée Paul-Dupuy, 3-4 décembre 2015.
The term cappricioso, used mainly in the musical field to
indicate the manner in which a piece is supposed to be performed,
encompasses a number of closely-related semantic components that all
pertain to the ideas of fancy, imagination and deviation from norms and,
of course, to all the developments that may be expected in various
arts. Accordingly, these ideas, widespread in the eighteenth century in
Europe, have opened up new prospects for such arts as music and ballet
(the latter being born academically during that period), setting the
stage for such figures as arabesque, fantasia, cappricio that have all become notable elements of musical and/or choreographic « grammar ». This paper aims to examine how the various changes brought about by
these new artistic thoughts and trends have had a major influence on
musical and choreographic composition and performance, shaping up new
visions of these arts and new modes of reception and expectations that
are still relevant today. Several examples, taken from the two artistic
fields concerned, will be discussed from the angle of the aesthetic,
sociological and cognitive evolution they reveal.</string>
